I am currently trying to use fewer chemicals in our household, and decided to try making more products we use every day. The first recipe I tried that I really like is for homemade laundry detergent. I have not tried making liquid detergent, but plan on doing so after we use most of the powder detergent I just made. One of our biggest costs are in cleaning supplies, and by making our own detergent, we are cutting a big chunk out of that cost!
2 bars Ivory soap (you can use any kind, I just wanted to use this because it is good for sensitive skin)
2 cups washing soda (found on the laundry aisle, marketed by Arm & Hammer)
2 cups Borax (again, found on the laundry aisle)
1. Grate the soap bars.
2. Mix the washing soda & Borax with the soap. I suggestion I found useful is to use a food processor to do this in order to get a consistent blend.
3. Store in an airtight container until ready to use. Use 1 tablespoon for a regular load, use 2 tablespoons for heavy/stained loads.

I make a liquid version of this and I love it!
How clean does this get clothes? I’ve thought of trying it before but not sure how the borax would work with my daughter with super sensitive skin.
